Ingredients:
- 1 cup (240 ml) ketchup
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup (55g) packed light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) yellow mustard
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) molasses
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke (optional)
Instructions:
- In the saucepan, whisk together ketchup, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, tomato paste, molasses, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, cayenne pepper (if using), and salt.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency. Adjust seasoning to taste.
- Stir in the liquid smoke (if using) during the last 5 minutes of simmering.
- Remove from heat and let the sauce cool completely before transferring to a heatproof container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
