Ingredients:
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon (5g) salt
- 1 teaspoon (4g) sugar
- 1 tablespoon (14g) active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup (180ml) warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) olive oil
- 1 teaspoon (2g) garlic powder (optional)
- 1 teaspoon (1g) dried oregano (optional)
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water and sprinkle yeast on top. Let sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt (and any optional flavoring).
- Pour the foamy yeast mixture and olive oil into the flour mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8-10 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then use a rolling pin to flatten into circles about 1/4 inch thick.
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) or place a pizza stone inside for at least 30 minutes.
- Place flattened dough on a baking sheet or directly on the pizza stone. Bake for 5-7 minutes until puffed and lightly browned.
- Transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly before serving.
