Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) salt
  • 1 teaspoon (4g) sugar
  • 1 tablespoon (14g) active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon (2g) garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon (1g) dried oregano (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water and sprinkle yeast on top. Let sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt (and any optional flavoring).
  3. Pour the foamy yeast mixture and olive oil into the flour mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8-10 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then use a rolling pin to flatten into circles about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) or place a pizza stone inside for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Place flattened dough on a baking sheet or directly on the pizza stone. Bake for 5-7 minutes until puffed and lightly browned.
  9. Transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly before serving.
