Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups (355 ml) ketchup
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup (50 g) packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) cayenne pepper (or to taste)
- 1/4 cup (60ml) water (optional, for thinning)
Instructions:
- In the saucepan, whisk together the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 30-45 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency. Stir occasionally.
- If the sauce becomes too thick, stir in a little water to reach your preferred consistency (optional).
- Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning as needed. Add more cayenne pepper for heat, brown sugar for sweetness, or vinegar for tanginess.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the sauce to cool completely before transferring it to a clean, airtight container. Store in the refrigerator.
