Ingredients:
- 6-8 medium apples (about 3 pounds) — peeled, cored, and sliced
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (optional, for richness)
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch or all-purpose flour (for thickening)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
Instructions:
- Peel, core, and slice the apples. Place them in a mixing bowl.
- Combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch (or flour), and salt in a separate bowl.
- Drizzle lemon juice over the apple slices. Toss to coat.
- Sprinkle the dry mixture over the apples. Toss to ensure all apples are coated evenly.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter (if using). Add the apple mixture. Stir occasionally and cook until the apples are just tender, about 10-15 minutes.
- Cook until bubbly and thickened to your desired consistency. Remove from heat.
- Stir in vanilla extract, then allow to cool before using, or store in the refrigerator.
