Ingredients:

  • 1 can (15 oz) refried beans (425 g), preferably vegetarian
  • 1 cup (240 ml) shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup (120 ml) sour cream
  • ½ cup (120 ml) salsa (mild or hot, based on preference)
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) diced green chilies (optional)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin (2 g)
  • ½ tsp onion powder (1 g)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add a splash of oil if desired. Sauté garlic until fragrant (about 1 minute).
  2. Stir in the refried beans, cumin, onion powder, and green chilies. Mix well, heating until warm.
  3. Add sour cream and salsa to the bean mixture. Stir until fully combined and the dip is heated through.
  4. Sprinkle half the shredded cheese into the dip, mixing until melted and smooth.
  5. Pour the mixture into a serving dish and sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
  6. For a bubbly top, place under the broiler for 2-3 minutes until cheese is golden.
  7. Enjoy warm with tortilla chips or fresh veggies.
