Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of bread (white, whole grain, or sourdough; about 100g each / 3.5 oz)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (28g)
  • 4 ounces (about 113g) cheese (e.g., cheddar, gouda, or a blend, grated or sliced)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder or herb seasoning (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Gather your bread and cheese. If using block cheese, grate or slice it as needed.
  2. Spread 1 tablespoon of butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  3. Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, on a plate. Layer half of the cheese on top. Place a second slice of bread on top, buttered side up. Repeat for the second sandwich.
  4. Place your skillet on medium heat and let it warm up for a minute or so.
  5. Place the sandwich in the skillet. Cook until the bottom is golden brown (about 3-4 minutes). Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula and press gently. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the other side is golden and the cheese is melted.
  6. Remove the sandwiches from the skillet. Slice in half diagonally and serve immediately while hot!
