Ingredients:

  • 3 ripe avocados (about 500g), Haas avocados preferred
  • 1/2 small red onion (about 50g), finely diced
  • 1-2 serrano or jalapeño peppers (depending on heat preference), finely minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro (coriander leaves, about 10g), chopped
  • 2-3 tablespoons fresh lime juice (from about 1-2 limes)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 small tomato (about 100g), seeded and diced (optional, for extra texture)

Instructions:

  1. Halve the avocados, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a mixing bowl.
  2. Use a fork or potato masher to mash the avocados to your desired consistency.
  3. Add the diced red onion and minced chili pepper to the bowl.
  4. Stir in the chopped cilantro, salt, cumin (if using), and garlic powder (if using).
  5. Squeeze in the lime juice. Start with 2 tablespoons and add more to taste.
  6. If using, gently fold in the diced tomato.
  7. Taste the guacamole and adjust seasonings as needed. Add more salt, lime juice, or chili pepper to your liking.
  8. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, crudités, or your favorite accompaniments.
