Ingredients:
- 2 slices sourdough bread (approximately 4 oz/115g total weight)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened (28g)
- 2 slices sharp cheddar cheese (approximately 2 oz/56g total weight)
- 1 slice provolone cheese (approximately 0.5 oz/14g total weight)
- 1 teaspoon mayonnaise
- Pinch of garlic powder
Instructions:
- Spread softened butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
- On the unbuttered side of one slice of bread, place cheddar cheese first, then provolone.
- Spread the mayonnaise very thinly on the other unbuttered slice of bread. Sprinkle lightly with garlic powder.
- Place the mayo/garlic bread slice on top of the cheese layer, mayo-side down. Assemble the sandwich.
- Place the sandwich in the cold skillet. Turn the heat to medium-low (low and slow is key!).
- Cook until the bottom slice of bread is golden brown and the cheese is starting to melt (about 4-6 minutes). Grill one side.
- Flip the sandwich carefully. Continue cooking until the other side is golden brown and the cheese is completely melted and gooey (about 4-6 minutes more). Flip and finish.
- Remove the grilled cheese from the skillet and cut it in half. Serve immediately. The melted cheese should be stretchy and inviting. Serve immediately the best grilled cheese recipe.
