Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks, 227g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 3-4 cups (360-480g) powdered sugar (icing sugar), sifted
- 2-4 tablespoons (30-60ml) heavy cream or milk
- 2 teaspoons (10ml) vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon (1g) salt
Instructions:
- Beat the softened butter in a mixer on medium-high speed until light and fluffy. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
- With the mixer on low speed, gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, until fully incorporated. Scrape down the sides of the bowl between additions.
- Add the heavy cream or milk and vanilla extract. Mix on medium speed until smooth and creamy.
- If the frosting is too thick, add more liquid, one tablespoon at a time. If it's too thin, add more powdered sugar, one tablespoon at a time.
- Add a pinch of salt and mix it well.
- Beat the buttercream for 3 minutes in total.
