Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks/227g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3-4 cups (360-480g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) heavy cream or milk
  • 2 teaspoons (10ml) pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  2. With the mixer on low speed, gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Add the heavy cream (or milk), vanilla extract, and salt. Mix on low speed until just combined.
  4. Increase the mixer speed to medium-high and beat for 2-3 minutes, or until the frosting is light, fluffy, and smooth. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  5. If the frosting is too thick, add a teaspoon of milk or cream at a time until you reach your desired consistency. If it's too thin, add a tablespoon of sifted powdered sugar at a time.
  6. For best results and easier piping, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill the frosting in the refrigerator for 15 minutes. Stir well before using.
