Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon paprika (smoked paprika recommended)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano (Mexican oregano preferred)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (or kosher salt)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (freshly ground is best)
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, combine the chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
- Whisk or stir the spices together thoroughly to ensure an even blend.
- Optional Toasting (for Enhanced Flavor): Heat a dry skillet over medium-low heat. Add the spice mixture and toast for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until fragrant. Be careful not to burn! Remove from heat immediately.
- Transfer the taco seasoning to an airtight container. Store in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months. This is a very simple taco seasoning recipe.
