Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon paprika (smoked paprika recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano (Mexican oregano preferred)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (or kosher salt)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (freshly ground is best)

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  2. Whisk or stir the spices together thoroughly to ensure an even blend.
  3. Optional Toasting (for Enhanced Flavor): Heat a dry skillet over medium-low heat. Add the spice mixture and toast for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until fragrant. Be careful not to burn! Remove from heat immediately.
  4. Transfer the taco seasoning to an airtight container. Store in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months. This is a very simple taco seasoning recipe.
