Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 24 Rolos candies
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add melted butter, flour, and kosher salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms. Knead dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Divide the dough into 24 small pieces. Flatten each piece and place a Rolo in the center. Enclose the Rolo by pinching the dough closed and rolling it into a ball.
  4. In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Boil each pretzel ball for 30 seconds, then remove and drain on a paper towel.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place pretzels on the sheet, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
