Ingredients:
- 2 cups (250g) All-Purpose Flour, plus extra for dusting
- 1 cup (250g) Table Salt
- 1 cup (240ml) Warm Water
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Whisk to ensure evenly distributed.
- Gradually add the warm water, mixing with your hands until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour. If too dry, add a teaspoon of water at a time. This is How to Make Salt Dough.
- Roll out the dough to your desired thickness (about ¼ inch is good for ornaments). Use cookie cutters or a knife to create shapes.
- Use a toothpick or skewer to make a hole in each shape for hanging before baking (if desired).
- Place the shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in a preheated oven at 250°F (120°C) for 1-3 hours, depending on the thickness of the shapes. The ornaments should be hard and dry to the touch. Check regularly to prevent burning. If they start to brown too quickly, reduce the oven temperature slightly.
- Remove from the oven and let the ornaments cool completely on a wire rack.
- Once cool, decorate the salt dough ornaments with acrylic paints, markers, glitter, or anything else you fancy!
