Ingredients:

  • 4 hoagie rolls (about 6 inches each)
  • 1 pound (450g) of lean deli meat (such as roast beef, turkey, or ham)
  • 1 cup (100g) shredded lettuce
  • 1 medium tomato, sliced
  • ½ medium red onion, thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup (60ml) mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sliced pickles
  • Sliced jalapeños
  • Fresh herbs (like cilantro or basil)

Instructions:

  1. Slice the tomato and red onion. Shred the lettuce.
  2. Split the hoagie rolls and toast them in the skillet over medium heat until golden brown (about 2-3 minutes).
  3. In the same skillet, add a little oil if needed, and heat the deli meat until warmed through (about 5 minutes).
  4. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Stir to mix thoroughly.
  5. Spread the sauce evenly inside each toasted hoagie roll. Layer the warm deli meat, followed by lettuce, tomato, and red onion.
  6. Top with optional garnishes like pickles or jalapeños for added flavor.
  7. Carefully slice each sub in half and enjoy immediately.
