- 4 hoagie rolls (about 6 inches each)
- 1 pound (450g) of lean deli meat (such as roast beef, turkey, or ham)
- 1 cup (100g) shredded lettuce
- 1 medium tomato, sliced
- ½ medium red onion, thinly sliced
- ¼ cup (60ml) mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) Dijon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Sliced pickles
- Sliced jalapeños
- Fresh herbs (like cilantro or basil)
Instructions:
- Slice the tomato and red onion. Shred the lettuce.
- Split the hoagie rolls and toast them in the skillet over medium heat until golden brown (about 2-3 minutes).
- In the same skillet, add a little oil if needed, and heat the deli meat until warmed through (about 5 minutes).
- In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Stir to mix thoroughly.
- Spread the sauce evenly inside each toasted hoagie roll. Layer the warm deli meat, followed by lettuce, tomato, and red onion.
- Top with optional garnishes like pickles or jalapeños for added flavor.
- Carefully slice each sub in half and enjoy immediately.
