Ingredients:
- 1 large head of broccoli (approx. 500g / 1.1 lb), cut into florets
- ½ cup (120 ml) water
- Pinch of salt
- Optional: 1 tablespoon unsalted butter or olive oil (for drizzling)
- Optional: Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
- Optional: Lemon wedges (for serving)
Instructions:
- Rinse the broccoli florets thoroughly under cold water. Cut into evenly sized pieces for even cooking.
- Pour the water into the saucepan. Place the steamer basket inside, ensuring the bottom of the basket doesn't touch the water.
- Arrange the broccoli florets in a single layer in the steamer basket. Sprinkle with salt.
- Cover the saucepan with the lid and bring the water to a simmer over medium heat.
- Steam for 5-7 minutes, or until the broccoli is tender-crisp and bright green. Test with a fork; it should pierce easily but still have some resistance.
- Carefully remove the steamer basket from the saucepan using tongs. Transfer the broccoli to a serving dish.
- Drizzle with butter or olive oil (if using), season with black pepper (if using), and serve immediately with lemon wedges (if using).
