Ingredients:
- 2 ounces (60 ml) Blended Scotch Whisky
- 1 ounce (30 ml) Drambuie (Scotch Whisky Liqueur)
- Large Ice Cubes, as needed (for mixing and serving)
- 1 strip Lemon zest (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Chill the Glassware: Place the Old Fashioned glass in the freezer for a few minutes, or fill it with ice water while preparing the cocktail. A cold glass is non-negotiable.
- Prepare the Garnish: Using a vegetable peeler, remove a strip of lemon zest, avoiding the bitter white pith. Set aside.
- Prepare the Mixing Vessel: Fill the mixing glass about three-quarters full with fresh, high-quality ice cubes.
- Add the Spirits: Pour the 2 ounces (60 ml) of Blended Scotch Whisky into the mixing glass.
- Add the Sweetener: Pour the 1 ounce (30 ml) of Drambuie into the mixing glass.
- Stir Gently: Using the bar spoon, stir the ingredients slowly and consistently for about 20–30 seconds to chill the liquid without significant dilution. The outside of the mixing glass should feel frosty.
- Discard Chill Water: Empty the chilled serving glass of any residual water or ice used to chill it. Add one large, clear ice cube (or sphere) to the serving glass.
- Strain and Serve: Place the strainer over the mixing glass and carefully pour the chilled cocktail into the prepared Old Fashioned glass.
- Garnish and Express: Take the strip of lemon zest and hold it over the glass. Twist or pinch the peel to express the essential oils directly onto the surface of the drink. Run the peel around the rim of the glass before dropping it into the drink or discarding it.
- Serve Immediately.
