Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened (226 grams)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced (or 1 tablespoon garlic paste)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped (8 grams)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped (3 grams)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves, chopped (3 grams)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (2 grams)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (1 gram)
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon lemon juice (5 mL) for brightness

Instructions:

  1. Gather all ingredients and equipment. Soften the butter at room temperature if not already soft.
  2. Using a chefs knife, mince the garlic into fine pieces.
  3. Finely chop the parsley, chives, and thyme on the cutting board.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped herbs, salt, and pepper. Add lemon juice if using.
  5. Use a rubber spatula or wooden spoon to mix until all ingredients are evenly distributed and the butter is smooth.
  6. Transfer the butter mixture onto a sheet of parchment paper or plastic wrap. Form into a log shape and wrap tightly.
  7. Place in the refrigerator to chill for at least 30 minutes, or until firm (though can be used immediately).
  8. Once chilled, slice as needed and serve or use in recipes.
