Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- ⅓ cup vegetable oil
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch round cake pan with oil and dust it with flour, or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk to ensure they are evenly mixed and free of lumps.
- In a separate bowl, combine the applesauce, almond milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and apple cider vinegar. Mix well until fully combined.
- Pour the wet mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 28-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Carefully transfer it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once the cake is completely cooled, you can frost it with vegan chocolate frosting or serve it as is.
