Ingredients:

  • 3 cups (360g) whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup (120ml) warm water (110°F / 43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) honey
  • 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon (6g) salt
  • 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons / 7g) active dry yeast
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon (15ml) olive oil for greasing the bowl

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water and honey. Sprinkle yeast over water and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together whole wheat flour and salt.
  3. Once the yeast is activated, pour it into the flour mixture along with melted butter. Stir until combined.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the risen dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in the greased loaf pan.
  7. Cover again and let rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  10. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely before slicing.
