Ingredients:
- 3 cups (360g) whole wheat flour
- 1 cup (120ml) warm water (110°F / 43°C)
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) honey
- 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon (6g) salt
- 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons / 7g) active dry yeast
- Optional: 1 tablespoon (15ml) olive oil for greasing the bowl
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, combine warm water and honey. Sprinkle yeast over water and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together whole wheat flour and salt.
- Once the yeast is activated, pour it into the flour mixture along with melted butter. Stir until combined.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in the greased loaf pan.
- Cover again and let rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
- Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely before slicing.
