Ingredients:
- 2 cups (240g) whole wheat flour
- 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon (6g) salt
- 2 tablespoons (30g) honey
- 1 tablespoon (15g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup (240ml) warm water (110°F/43°C)
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, combine warm water and honey; sprinkle yeast over the top. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, and salt.
- Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients; pour in the yeast mixture and melted butter. Mix until a rough dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Shape the dough into a ball, place it in a greased bowl, and cover with a towel. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan.
- Cover and let rise again for about 30 minutes until it puffs up.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Remove from the pan and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
