Ingredients:
- 4 large (approx. 2 lbs / 900g) Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, cored and cubed
- 1 tbsp coconut oil or unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 tbsp water or fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions:
- Dice the apples into consistent 1/2-inch (1.3cm) cubes to ensure even cooking.
- Heat coconut oil or butter in a 12-inch heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Add the apples and sauté for 3–5 minutes until the edges are light golden brown.
- Lower the heat to medium. Stir in the maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and water (or lemon juice) until coated.
- Simmer for another 5–7 minutes until the liquid reduces into a velvety syrup that clings to the fruit.
- Remove from heat and let the apples sit in the pan for 2 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken.
