Ingredients:

  • 4 large (approx. 2 lbs / 900g) Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, cored and cubed
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil or unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp water or fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions:

  1. Dice the apples into consistent 1/2-inch (1.3cm) cubes to ensure even cooking.
  2. Heat coconut oil or butter in a 12-inch heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Add the apples and sauté for 3–5 minutes until the edges are light golden brown.
  3. Lower the heat to medium. Stir in the maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and water (or lemon juice) until coated.
  4. Simmer for another 5–7 minutes until the liquid reduces into a velvety syrup that clings to the fruit.
  5. Remove from heat and let the apples sit in the pan for 2 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken.
