Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 burger buns (e.g., brioche, sesame)
  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce leaves
  • 1 medium tomato, sliced
  • 1 small red onion, sliced
  • Pickles (optional)
  • Ketchup and mustard (for serving)

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until just combined to avoid overworking the meat. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties.
  2. Place the patties on a plate and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape when grilling.
  3. Heat the grill to medium-high heat (about 400°F or 200°C).
  4. Place the patties on the grill and cook for 3-4 minutes on one side.
  5. Flip the patties and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C). Add cheese during the last minute of cooking if desired.
  6. Cut the burger buns and toast them on the grill for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  7. On each bun, place lettuce, cooked beef patty, tomato, onion, and pickles. Add ketchup and mustard to taste, then top with the other half of the bun.
  8. Serve immediately with your favorite side dishes.
