Ingredients:

  • 6 cups fresh blackberries
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar, plus more for sprinkling (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, gently toss blackberries with sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Pour the blackberry mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading evenly.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients using a pastry blender (or your fingers) until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Stir in milk and vanilla extract until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the cobbler topping evenly over the blackberry filling. Leave some blackberry peeking through.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. A toothpick inserted into the topping should come out clean.
  8. Let cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
