Ingredients:
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (240g) unsweetened applesauce
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
- Sliced apples or walnuts, for decoration
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour the cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt; set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the applesauce and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, folding gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, spreading it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely.
- Dust with powdered sugar and add any desired garnishes before serving.
