Ingredients:
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, extra virgin
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)
- 1 teaspoon sugar (or to taste)
Instructions:
- Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Be careful not to burn the garlic!
- Stir in crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce.
- Add oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar. Stir well to combine. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Adjust seasoning (salt, pepper, sugar) to taste during the last 10 minutes of simmering. The sauce should thicken slightly.
- Allow the sauce to cool slightly before using on your pizza. You can store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for longer storage.
