Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (200g) long-grain white rice (like basmati or jasmine)
  • 2 cups (475ml) water
  • ½ teaspoon (2.5ml) salt (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Place the rice in a sieve and rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch.
  2. In a saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, water, and salt (if using).
  3. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
  4. Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to the lowest possible setting. Cover the saucepan tightly with the lid.
  5. Simmer the rice, covered, for 18 minutes. Do NOT lift the lid during this time.
  6. After 18 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat without lifting the lid. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
  7. After resting, remove the lid and gently fluff the rice with a fork. Serve immediately.
