Ingredients:
- 1 cup (200g) long-grain white rice (like basmati or jasmine)
- 2 cups (475ml) water
- ½ teaspoon (2.5ml) salt (optional)
Instructions:
- Place the rice in a sieve and rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch.
- In a saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, water, and salt (if using).
- Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
- Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to the lowest possible setting. Cover the saucepan tightly with the lid.
- Simmer the rice, covered, for 18 minutes. Do NOT lift the lid during this time.
- After 18 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat without lifting the lid. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
- After resting, remove the lid and gently fluff the rice with a fork. Serve immediately.
