Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground pork or ground beef
  • 1/2 cup (60 g) breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup (60 g) green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) soy sauce (for sauce)
  • 1/4 cup (60 g) honey or maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon water (to thin, if necessary)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground pork or beef, breadcrumbs, green onions, garlic, ginger, egg, soy sauce, sesame oil, black pepper, and salt.
  3. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
  4. Using your hands or a scoop, form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to help them set.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  7. In a small saucepan, whisk together soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, Sriracha, and red pepper flakes over medium heat.
  8. Simmer for 3-5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  9. In a large mixing bowl, toss baked meatballs with firecracker sauce until well coated.
  10. Garnish with additional green onions or sesame seeds if desired and enjoy!
