Ingredients:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) milk (whole or semi-skimmed)
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon (0.6ml) ground nutmeg (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon (15g) unsalted butter (for cooking)
  • 4 slices of bread (day-old preferred, such as brioche, challah, or white bread)
  • Optional toppings: Maple syrup, powdered sugar (icing sugar), fresh berries, whipped cream

Instructions:

  1. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and salt until well combined.
  2. Melt the butter in a non-stick frying pan or griddle over medium heat. The pan is ready when a drop of water sizzles.
  3. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well coated. Allow excess mixture to drip off.
  4. Place the soaked bread slices in the hot pan and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning.
  5. Serve the French Toast immediately with your favourite toppings.
