Ingredients:
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup (60ml) milk (whole or semi-skimmed)
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon (0.6ml) ground nutmeg (optional)
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tablespoon (15g) unsalted butter (for cooking)
- 4 slices of bread (day-old preferred, such as brioche, challah, or white bread)
- Optional toppings: Maple syrup, powdered sugar (icing sugar), fresh berries, whipped cream
Instructions:
- In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and salt until well combined.
- Melt the butter in a non-stick frying pan or griddle over medium heat. The pan is ready when a drop of water sizzles.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well coated. Allow excess mixture to drip off.
- Place the soaked bread slices in the hot pan and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning.
- Serve the French Toast immediately with your favourite toppings.
