Ingredients:
- 2 lbs (900g) ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 2 tbsp (30ml) Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp (6g) kosher salt
- 1 tsp (2g) black pepper
- 1 tbsp (15g) unsalted butter
- 4 large burger buns
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 4 leaves romaine lettuce
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, gently combine the ground beef with the Worcestershire sauce. Mix lightly by hand to avoid overworking the meat.
- Divide the beef into 4 equal portions and shape into discs about 1 inch thick. Press a shallow dimple into the center of each patty with your thumb.
- Season the patties generously with salt and pepper immediately before grilling.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat (approximately 400°F/200°C). Place patties on the grates, close the lid, and sear for 4-5 minutes without moving them.
- Flip the patties and immediately place a slice of cheese on each. Grill for another 4-5 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (medium) or 160°F (well-done).
- Allow the meat to rest for 3 minutes. During this time, butter the buns and toast them on the grill until golden.
- Assemble burgers by placing the patty on the toasted bun and topping with sliced tomato, red onion, and romaine lettuce.
