Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs (900g) ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp (6g) kosher salt
  • 1 tsp (2g) black pepper
  • 1 tbsp (15g) unsalted butter
  • 4 large burger buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 leaves romaine lettuce

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, gently combine the ground beef with the Worcestershire sauce. Mix lightly by hand to avoid overworking the meat.
  2. Divide the beef into 4 equal portions and shape into discs about 1 inch thick. Press a shallow dimple into the center of each patty with your thumb.
  3. Season the patties generously with salt and pepper immediately before grilling.
  4. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat (approximately 400°F/200°C). Place patties on the grates, close the lid, and sear for 4-5 minutes without moving them.
  5. Flip the patties and immediately place a slice of cheese on each. Grill for another 4-5 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (medium) or 160°F (well-done).
  6. Allow the meat to rest for 3 minutes. During this time, butter the buns and toast them on the grill until golden.
  7. Assemble burgers by placing the patty on the toasted bun and topping with sliced tomato, red onion, and romaine lettuce.
