Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (475 ml) heavy cream, cold
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.5 ml) salt
  • 1 bag (450g) of ice cubes
  • 1/2 cup (110g) salt
  • Optional: Chocolate shavings, sprinkles, chopped nuts, or fresh fruit for topping

Instructions:

  1. In the smaller zip-top bag, combine heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Seal tightly, removing as much air as possible.
  2. Fill the larger zip-top bag with ice cubes and salt. Salt lowers the freezing point of water, making the ice cream freeze faster.
  3. Place the smaller bag inside the larger bag and seal securely. Wrap the bag in a kitchen towel or use oven mitts to protect your hands from the cold.
  4. Shake the bag vigorously for about 3 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened into ice cream. Keep shaking!
  5. Check the consistency of the ice cream. If it's not firm enough, continue shaking for another minute or two.
  6. Spoon the ice cream into bowls and top with your favorite toppings. Serve immediately, as it will melt quickly.
