Ingredients:
- 6 glazed donuts (Krispy Kreme or similar), cut into 1-inch cubes (approx. 450g)
- 4 large eggs (200g)
- 2 cups heavy cream (475ml)
- 1 cup whole milk (235ml)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (100g)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5ml)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (1g)
- Pinch of salt (1g)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (30g)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter (115g)
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar (100g)
- 1/4 cup heavy cream (60ml)
- 2 tablespoons whiskey (Bourbon or Scotch) (30ml)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (2.5ml)
- Pinch of salt (1g)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
- Spread the cubed donuts evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Slowly pour the custard mixture evenly over the donuts, ensuring all the donuts are moistened. Gently press down on the donuts to submerge them slightly.
- Let the bread pudding sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes to allow the donuts to absorb the custard.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is golden brown. A knife inserted into the center should come out mostly clean.
- While the bread pudding is baking, melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar, heavy cream, whiskey, vanilla extract, and salt. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the glaze thickens slightly.
- Remove the bread pudding from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Then, drizzle the whiskey glaze evenly over the top.
- Serve warm, and watch Dad's face light up!
