Ingredients:
- 4 cups (946 ml) Water or Milk (dairy or non-dairy), plus more for adjusting consistency
- 1 cup (180g) Steel-Cut Oats
- ¼ teaspoon Sea Salt, plus more to taste
- Optional: 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar or Maple Syrup (or other sweetener), to taste
- Optional toppings: Fresh fruit (berries, bananas, apples), nuts, seeds, dried fruit, yogurt, honey, cinnamon, etc.
Instructions:
- In the saucepan, bring the water or milk and salt to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
- Stir in the steel-cut oats. Immediately reduce the heat to low.
- Cover the saucepan and simmer the oats for 25-30 minutes, or until the oats are tender and the mixture is creamy. Stir occasionally (every 5-7 minutes) to prevent sticking and scorching.
- Check the consistency towards the end of the cooking time. If the oats are too thick, add a little more water or milk until you reach your desired consistency.
- Stir in brown sugar or maple syrup, if desired, to taste.
- Divide the oats into bowls and top with your favorite toppings. Enjoy!
