Ingredients:

  • 4 cups (946 ml) Water or Milk (dairy or non-dairy), plus more for adjusting consistency
  • 1 cup (180g) Steel-Cut Oats
  • ¼ teaspoon Sea Salt, plus more to taste
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar or Maple Syrup (or other sweetener), to taste
  • Optional toppings: Fresh fruit (berries, bananas, apples), nuts, seeds, dried fruit, yogurt, honey, cinnamon, etc.

Instructions:

  1. In the saucepan, bring the water or milk and salt to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Stir in the steel-cut oats. Immediately reduce the heat to low.
  3. Cover the saucepan and simmer the oats for 25-30 minutes, or until the oats are tender and the mixture is creamy. Stir occasionally (every 5-7 minutes) to prevent sticking and scorching.
  4. Check the consistency towards the end of the cooking time. If the oats are too thick, add a little more water or milk until you reach your desired consistency.
  5. Stir in brown sugar or maple syrup, if desired, to taste.
  6. Divide the oats into bowls and top with your favorite toppings. Enjoy!
