Ingredients:

  • 12 fresh mint leaves (about 10g)
  • 1/2 cup sugar (100g)
  • 1/2 cup water (120ml)
  • 6 oz bourbon (180ml)
  • Crushed ice (to fill glasses)
  • Fresh mint sprigs (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Combine sugar and water in a saucepan. Heat over low until sugar is dissolved.
  2. Remove from heat, add mint leaves, and steep for 30 minutes. Strain the syrup into a jar, discarding the mint leaves. Allow to cool.
  3. In a julep cup or glass, muddle 6 mint leaves with 1-2 tablespoons of the mint syrup.
  4. Fill the glass with crushed ice. Pour in bourbon and gently stir to combine.
  5. Top with more crushed ice and a sprig of fresh mint for garnish.
