Ingredients:

  • 8–10 large Fresh Mint Leaves (plus 1 sprig for garnish)
  • 5 fl oz Simple Syrup (1:1 ratio)
  • 0 fl oz Premium Kentucky Bourbon (minimum 90 proof)
  • Approx. 1 cup finely Crushed Ice

Instructions:

  1. Gently wash the mint leaves. Remove the leaves from the stem, reserving a handsome sprig for the final garnish.
  2. Combine the Base: Place the 8–10 mint leaves and the simple syrup (15 ml) directly into the base of the Julep cup.
  3. The Gentle Muddle: Press the mint leaves lightly with the muddler 2–3 times. The goal is to release aromatic oils without causing bitterness. Stop once you smell the fresh mint essence.
  4. Add the Bourbon: Pour the 2.0 fl oz (60 ml) of bourbon into the cup over the muddled mint and syrup.
  5. Initial Chill: Stir the mixture briefly (about 5 seconds) with the bar spoon to combine the spirits and sugar.
  6. Pack the Ice: Fill the cup halfway with finely crushed ice. Stir vigorously for about 10 seconds to begin chilling the mixture and the cup.
  7. Top Up: Add the remaining crushed ice, packing it tightly into a dome shape over the rim of the cup.
  8. The Frost: Place your hand on the outside of the cup and slowly turn it for 30–60 seconds until a thick, white layer of frost forms on the metal exterior.
  9. Garnish: Slap the reserved mint sprig lightly against your hand to release the aroma and insert it directly into the packed ice near the edge of the cup.
  10. Serve: Insert a short straw (or two) right next to the garnish. Serve immediately, handling the cup only by the rim or base.
