Ingredients:
- 3 cups (710ml) whole milk
- 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup (30g) cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 large egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 (12-ounce) package vanilla wafers, such as Nabisco Nilla Wafers (about 45-50 cookies)
- 3-4 ripe bananas, sliced (about 1/4 inch thick)
- Optional: Whipped cream for topping
Instructions:
- Whisk together milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a saucepan.
- Whisk in egg yolks until combined.
- Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until thickened and bubbly.
- Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract.
- Pour pudding into a bowl, cover with plastic wrap directly on the surface, and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.
- Arrange a layer of vanilla wafers on the bottom of your chosen dish.
- Top with a layer of sliced bananas.
- Spread about 1/3 of the chilled pudding over the bananas.
- Repeat layers of wafers, bananas, and pudding twice more, ending with a layer of pudding.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and chill for at least 4 hours before serving. This Classic Banana Pudding needs to chill.
- Garnish with whipped cream and extra vanilla wafers, if desired.
