Ingredients:

  • 3 large (approx. 1.5 lb / 680g) yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 tbsp (56g) unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp (6g) kosher salt
  • 8 oz (225g) full-fat cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup (120ml) sour cream
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp (2g) garlic powder
  • ½ tsp (2g) onion powder
  • 1 cup (115g) Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • Fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions:

  1. Melt the butter in a large heavy-bottomed skillet over medium heat until foaming.
  2. Add the sliced onions and salt, stirring to coat. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 30–40 minutes until the onions reach a deep, jammy mahogany color.
  3. Remove the caramelized onions from heat and let them cool slightly.
  4. In a medium mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth.
  5. Stir in the sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder until the mixture is velvety.
  6. Gently fold in the caramelized onions and transfer the mixture into an 8-inch oven-safe baking dish, smoothing the top.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Spread the shredded Gruyère cheese evenly over the top of the dip.
  9. Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the edges are bubbling and the cheese has developed golden-brown spots.
  10. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and serve immediately.
