Ingredients:

  • 4 cups (480g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup (120ml) whole milk, warmed
  • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¾ cup (150g) brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup (60g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 medium apples (e.g., Granny Smith), peeled, cored, and diced
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. Add warm milk, melted butter, and eggs; mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, until doubled in size.
  5. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Set aside softened butter for spreading on the dough.
  7. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat, add diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  8. Cook until apples are tender and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes; set aside to cool.
  9. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 16x12 inches).
  10. Spread softened butter evenly over the dough; sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.
  11. Evenly distribute the caramelized apples over the sugar layer.
  12. Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log.
  13. Slice the log into 12 even pieces.
  14. Arrange the rolls in a greased baking dish, cut side up, cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  15. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  16. Allow to cool slightly before serving, optionally drizzled with icing.
