Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (240 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tsp (10 g) baking powder
  • 1 tsp (5 g) vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp (1 g) salt
  • 1 cup (230 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups (480 g) powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp (30-45 ml) heavy cream
  • 1 tsp (5 g) vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (black, pink, and yellow)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour the 9-inch cake pans.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Add milk and vanilla extract; mix until just combined.
  7. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until smooth.
  8. Divide the batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Beat softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and cream until fluffy; adjust consistency if necessary.
  11. Level the cakes if needed, stack them with frosting in between, then frost the top and sides.
  12. Use piping bags to create Hello Kittys face and features with colored frosting.
  13. Chill the finished cake for at least 30 minutes before serving to set the frosting.
