Ingredients:
- 4 cups day-old bread (cubed, about 400 grams)
- 1 cup unsalted butter (226 grams)
- 1 large onion (diced)
- 2 stalks celery (diced)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 teaspoons dried sage (about 5 grams)
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme (about 2 grams)
- 1 teaspoon salt (about 6 grams)
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (about 1 gram)
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth (480 mL)
- 1/2 cup fresh parsley (chopped, about 15 grams)
- 2 large eggs (lightly beaten)
Instructions:
- Cube the day-old bread into small pieces and place in a large bowl. (Optional) Allow to sit out for 30 minutes to further dry.
- Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and celery, and sauté until softened (about 5-7 minutes). Stir in minced garlic, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Pour the sautéed mixture over the bread cubes. Mix in chopped parsley, broth, and beaten eggs until everything is evenly combined.
- Spoon the stuffing mixture into a greased baking dish, pressing gently but not too compactly.
- Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden brown.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm! Bake Classic Stuffing with Day-Old Bread to complete your holiday feast.
