Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 0.33 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 6 cups peeled and diced apples (Granny Smith and Honeycrisp mix)
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 0.5 tsp cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Pulse flour, sugar, salt, and chilled butter in a food processor until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Firmly press the base mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  4. Bake the crust for 12-15 minutes until edges are barely golden; remove and let cool slightly.
  5. Prepare filling by mixing diced apples, brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  6. Spread apple filling evenly over the par-baked crust.
  7. Combine crumble ingredients (flour, softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon) and sprinkle over the apple layer.
  8. Bake for approximately 45 minutes until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  9. Allow bars to cool for 45 minutes before slicing into 16 squares.
