Ingredients:
- 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 0.33 cup granulated sugar
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 6 cups peeled and diced apples (Granny Smith and Honeycrisp mix)
- 0.5 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 0.25 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 0.5 cup brown sugar, packed
- 0.5 tsp cinnamon
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- Pulse flour, sugar, salt, and chilled butter in a food processor until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Firmly press the base mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan.
- Bake the crust for 12-15 minutes until edges are barely golden; remove and let cool slightly.
- Prepare filling by mixing diced apples, brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
- Spread apple filling evenly over the par-baked crust.
- Combine crumble ingredients (flour, softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon) and sprinkle over the apple layer.
- Bake for approximately 45 minutes until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Allow bars to cool for 45 minutes before slicing into 16 squares.
