Ingredients:

  • 4 medium apples (such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (approximately 600g / 21 oz)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (15ml / 0.5 fl oz)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (1.25ml)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (25g / 0.9 oz)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (125g / 4.4 oz)
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar (300g / 10.6 oz)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (2.5ml)
  • 3 large eggs (approximately 150g / 5.3 oz)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly (113g / 4 oz)
  • 3 cups whole milk (720ml / 24 fl oz)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5ml / 0.17 fl oz)
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (1.25ml)

Instructions:

  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples. Toss with lemon juice, cinnamon, and sugar.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt.
  4. Add the eggs, melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Whisk until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into the pie plate. Arrange the apple slices evenly over the batter.
  6. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the pie cool completely on a wire rack before serving.
