Ingredients:
- 2 lbs (900g) Russet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch thick fries
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) olive oil or avocado oil
- 1 teaspoon (5g) kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5g) black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25g) garlic powder (optional)
- Water, for soaking
Instructions:
- Peel potatoes and cut into fries, aiming for consistent size.
- Place cut fries in a large bowl and cover with cold water. Soak for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours) to remove excess starch.
- Drain the fries thoroughly and pat them completely dry with paper towels or a clean kitchen towel.
- In a large bowl, toss the dried fries with olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder (if using). Make sure they're evenly coated.
- Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Place fries in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding; cook in batches if necessary.
- Air fry for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until golden brown and crispy. This will teach you exactly how to make french fries.
- Remove fries from the air fryer and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
