Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs (900g) Russet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch thick fries
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5g) black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25g) garlic powder (optional)
  • Water, for soaking

Instructions:

  1. Peel potatoes and cut into fries, aiming for consistent size.
  2. Place cut fries in a large bowl and cover with cold water. Soak for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours) to remove excess starch.
  3. Drain the fries thoroughly and pat them completely dry with paper towels or a clean kitchen towel.
  4. In a large bowl, toss the dried fries with olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder (if using). Make sure they're evenly coated.
  5. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Place fries in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding; cook in batches if necessary.
  6. Air fry for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until golden brown and crispy. This will teach you exactly how to make french fries.
  7. Remove fries from the air fryer and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
