Ingredients:
- 14 oz (400 g) firm or extra-firm tofu
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 1 tsp (5 ml) toasted sesame oil
- 1 tsp (5 ml) rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp (8 g) cornstarch or arrowroot powder
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) neutral oil (e.g., canola or avocado oil)
- 1 tsp (5 g) grated fresh ginger (optional)
- 1 clove garlic, minced (optional)
- 1 tsp (5 ml) maple syrup or honey (optional for slight sweetness)
Instructions:
- Drain tofu, wrap it in a clean towel, and press gently under a heavy object for 10-15 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- Slice pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes (about 1-inch pieces).
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, grated ginger, garlic, and maple syrup (if using).
- Toss tofu cubes gently in the marinade; let sit for 10 minutes for the best flavour.
- Sprinkle cornstarch evenly over tofu and toss or gently stir until all pieces are lightly coated.
- Set air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and preheat for 3 minutes.
- Place tofu cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket, avoiding overcrowding. Lightly spray or brush with oil for extra crispiness. Cook for 15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through or turning cubes, until tofu is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from air fryer; serve immediately with your choice of sides or sauces.
